Driving Directions Data Not Stored In Maps

In an attempt to keep our map sizes down, much of the information that is required for high quality driving directions are not included. Things like do these two roads actually connect, the direction of travel on a road, and the speed limit of a road, are not included in our maps. Also, if you don't have the map for any point along the route, we wouldn't be able to provide the directions for you. Because of these issues, we put the driving directions on a big server that could hold all of this data. That is why your device tries to make a connection to the internet for driving directions.

If your device has bluetooth and you also have a phone that has bluetooth, you can connect to the internet through your cell phone. You'll need to consult your manual or support for your device to do this, but at least for Palm devices, it is relatively straight forward. I'm sure it can be done with Windows devices relatively simply as well.

Internet Connection Error

I'm using the Spring PPC6700 and the latest version of EC. When I'm connected to my laptop via a USB cable, I'm able to retrieve directions just fine. When I'm disconnected and on the road, I get the "Unable to connect error." I've tried switching between WiFi and EVDO -- but get the same message. I'm able to check email, browse the internet, etc., so I know I have an internet connection. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
