"How to Create Cache in earthcomber" in Group Geocaching
Games

How can I import the GPX files into earthcomber? Are there any limits? In cachemate, I carry over 1500 cache locations.

Importing GPX

The Earthcomber Updater can be used to import GPX files.

  1. From the Updater's Main Screen, simply press "Alt-I" (that's the letter "eye"). A dialog will pop up.
  2. Click the "Select" button to bring up a file chooser. Find your file and click "Select File".
  3. Then, click "Save". The Updater will tell you to do a "Get Updates".
  4. So, do a "Get Updates". By the time you get the "Summary Screen", the locations will be in your inbox.

1500 locations may take a while.

From your Inbox, you can move or copy those locations to a Group.

Sincerely,

Importing GPX files via Mac version of Updater

I was excited to find your notes on the subject of importing GPX. I have not been able to get the "Alt-I" process to work on the Mac version of the Earthcomber Updater. Could you instruct further or help me find another way?

Thanks,

Darryl Mauck

Importing GPX on a Mac

I'm not sure what issue you are seeing on the Mac. My two guesses are:
1. "Alt-I" doesn't work.
2. The whole thing didn't work.

If it's #1, it could be that you need to press "Ctrl-I" or "Apple-I" or "Option-I". I think it's "Option-I" on our Mac.

If the problem is #2, then we'll have to do some testing here to see what's going on.

group to palm

How do I get caches in the group to download to the program on my palm tungsten e2? I have updated and hotsynced several times and the info in groups doesn't get onto my palm.

Use "My Groups" looklist

There are a couple of things that the Earthcomber Updater should provide and you should confirm to get group locations:

  1. When searching use the "Geocaching" keyword in the "My Groups" looklist. Make sure that you have the "My Groups" looklist and that it has the "Geocaching" keyword.
  2. Make sure you subscribe to the map for the county in which the caches exist. The Earthcomber Updater will only get the location data for counties to which you are subscribed. If you view a Location/Cache on the web, it will tell you the name of the county.

Let us know if it still is not working.

Sincerely,

Moving to group

Every time I run the updater and load the GPX file, everything goes fine, but I don't get the files in my inbox. And since I don't get them in my inbox, I can't move them to a group to load to my Palm. Any help? Main Question: Why won't the file load to my inbox after I do the "ALT+I" and then update?

Nevermind. I figured it out..

Nevermind. I figured it out.... Thanks so much for posting this! This is by far the best mapping software I've ever seen (for mapping).
