» downloading map files to Palm causes crash
FAQ

Downloading map files directly from a wireless internet connection to my Palm TX causes it to crash (Palm shuts down and restarts). Downloading to my computer first works fine. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Quick Guess, Space Issues

Peter,
For a Palm device to download a Palm Database file (PDB) it must create a temporary file holding all of the data, then copy that to an actual PDB. This requires twice the space on your device than the size of the file. Earthcomber should handle this, but might be failing because it thinks that twice the size is doable, but it's not. Let me know where you are downloading the map to (Device, Internal Drive, SD Card) and how much free space you have. Hopefully, we can get this resolved before the next release.

Sincerely,

I think I have it fixed (maybe "understand" is better) it: I am
accessing a university wireless connection that requires logging in
with my username/password.

If I log into the wireless system BEFORE running Earthcomber, it works
fine: I am able to download maps and data. However if I try to
download a file from Earthcomber before doing the wireless log in,
then the Palm crashes.

So I just have to remember to log in first. Perhaps this is unique to
our university's log in procedure.
